building on basics

Basics…. a chic, effortless girl’s favorite word.

I feel like my entire style revolves around building on the basics. I love a crisp white tee, leggings styled up, and classic silhouettes that tie everything together. Building on the basics always leaves me feeling effortlessly put together and comfortably in my style pocket.

Building on basics goes one of two ways for me (honestly, my current style secret):

  1. Build a base of basics + a funkier fashion element = cool, chic, and unique look

  2. Strapped for time / don’t know what to wear + quality basics = comfortable, effortless, put together look

So, what is on my list of go to basics (the foundation for the majorrritty of my looks)? Here are my top 10:

  1. blazers - oversized black and brown pinstripe

  2. tees - crisp white (fitted and oversized), black, and light grey

  3. black leggings - so easy to build a comfortable but chic outfit around

  4. white crew socks - v chic grandpa but sometimes it is just what pulls it all together

  5. loafers - brown and black preferably

  6. classic silhouette leather bag - brown is my go to!

  7. jackets - leather and trench; my leather jacket is my most worn item in my closet

  8. jeans - white straight leg, dark wash straight leg, and slouchy medium wash

  9. silk skirt - black and navy are gorg go tos

  10. comfortable pants - black trousers, track pants, good sweatpants, silk pants

Honorable mentions for spring & summer - linen trousers and shorts, biker shorts, and white tanks

Basics are the best! Use them as a capsule collection to curate many different looks, build on them with funkier fashion pieces to add interest on the days you are feeling stand out, and transition them season to season.

I have curated a list of my favorite basics and the ones on my wishlist below to help you start building your collection!

xx,

AJ
