June was a month for making the most of exactly where I was. I branched out with fun fashion pieces, incorporated more summer colors, and created meaningful memories and moments that felt like sweet summer.

Early last month, I realized that I had been living in discontentment and letting ungratefulness seep into all areas of my life. Did you know that ungratefulness can entirely change your character and put you in just a chronic bad mood?? I had a big fat wake up call that, yes, although I was struggling with very real feelings of grief and disappointment, the majority of my unhappiness was stemming from my own choosing of being discontent.

Once I discovered (with the gentle nudge from my wonderful husband) the discontentment that had taken root in my spirit, pulled that weed right on out, and let immense gratitude bloom, June entirely shifted to a month full of creativity, inspiration, and summer joys.

June's finest: summer staycation, morning walks, trying new things + working on my photography, cute summer swimmies and fashion, and cappuccinos

Leaning into the "summer vacation" feels was the move this month. Slowing down for a morning cappuccino and book on the patio, unplugging for a weekend, creating an intentional staycation that actually felt like an island getaway, uninterrupted time with my love, enjoying wellness and movement, and exploring creativity and inspiration in new ways.

One big highlight of June was our staycation!

We had a vacation planned for the middle of June to a resort and spa, but for reasons out of our control, it was cancelled. I moped and was very dramatic about it for over a week, but that is actually what ended up being the catalyst for me in discovering my discontentment. Once I acknowledged the very real feelings of disappointment, went a little deeper to the core of my overreaction, and then shifted my perspective and attitude (you can read more about this in my 'discontentment' blog post here), I was able to lean into gratitude and make the most of what we could control!

We decided to have our own vacation! We got two Funboy Tanning Pools, a beach umbrella, European summer vibes striped pool towels, new swimsuits, and made the most of it! We unplugged, did yoga on the patio, had a slow morning fit with cappuccinos, spent hours in our tanning pools reading and napping, had fresh ceviche and chips and guac delivered to our house, and ended our day in the sun with an "after beach day" dinner at a restaurant.

Not only was that weekend really restful and the vacation we needed, but it also taught me some things.

  1. Life is truly what you make it - beauty + inspiration is everywhere!

  2. Gratitude is key to a joyful life.

  3. Rest is important and finding /making moments to get it is a necessity.

  4. I need to incorporate a relaxed energy and calm mind into my day to day life more. It can't just be "go go go" or total rest - I have to find a balance of both to avoid burnout.

It was the best part of the month!

I have never been a summer gal. I have always loved fall/winter fashion weather, holidays, colors, and energy. However, June sparked a new interest in summer and all it has to offer, including fashion.

I really enjoyed pairing effortless pieces with fun, unique items like this sequin skirt and white tee outfit. I got the inspo from a gorg girlie pop on Pinterest, and I had to recreate it - my favorite outfit of the month. Another favorite outfit with a similar formula was a denim cropped shirt from Zara with track pants and sambas.

Blue was my color this month! A fun and easy way I branched out past my neutral closet: I bought new colors in some of my ongoing favorites like my favorite biker shorts. It was so fun to spruce up regular staples with summer colors; it really had me appreciating summer in a new way. I still live for my neutrals, especially brown these days, but it really did give me a new summer pep to my step when I was wearing a bright summer color.

Some fashion favorites this month were my sequin skirt, brown sandal heels (so trendy right now but also classic), a gorg mini chocolate brown bag, brown polka dot bikini (quality + price!!), and the perfect oversized white tee!

Home in June was a "stop to smell the roses" kinda vibe. It was a month of gratitude and slowing down enough to see my blessings. I was so thankful for our home, time, resources, and my creativity and talent.

I captured a lot of slow, cozy, quiet moments in our home. I love the way light comes in our linen curtains, our couch slouches for a cozy feel, the unique wood pieces ground me, and the peace these 4 walls bring me.

In this effort to slow down enough to acknowledge the blessings, we made our home feel very "beach house" for our staycation weekend. Let's set the beach house scene: the smell of sunscreen and pool floats, crisp cold air conditioning that hits your sun kissed skin, the tile floor under your feet when you come in wet from a day in the sun, and hanging your swimsuit up to dry after a warm shower washing off the day. Yeah, we did all of those things in our own home in the middle of Texas!

Being grateful and having the "make the most of it" attitude really does shift your spirit and make it easier to find joy!

June = being grateful for life exactly where I am and looking at summer from a new perspective. I gained some big time perspective on my blessings, and how I can make the most of each day being grateful for what I have.

Notable June Activities + Moments:

  1. Cutie Summer Vacation Nails - my introduction into fun summer nails! Vacation nails caused this neutral nail gal to have a joyful awakening.

  2. A little latte moment - picked up some lattes for me and my friend before me hair appointment. I went through a white chocolate latte phase the beginning of June!

  3. Just a gal - I just loved this shot. This little mini bag was a favorite this month!

  4. Product Shot Practice - I worked a lot on my photography this month. I realized beautiful and inspired content was right where I was.

  5. Glowy Summer Flush - the "post beach day" makeup look. I had been seeing the trend everywhere and wanted to have a fun little moment too after our staycation day. One of my favorite makeup looks ever!

  6. My Mermaid Skirt - inspired by a girlie pop on Pinterest and H2O (yes, the show lol). This skirt is definitely my most fun piece in my closet and I loved styling her!

  7. Cap + Reading - Found a new love for cappuccinos + found my old love for reading again

  8. The "life's what you make it" staycation - such a good weekend! 10/10 recommend!

  9. Morning walks - got back to my morning walks! I forgot how much I loved them and how they really set the tone for the day.

  10. Workin' Gal - on the blog, Pinterest, and my actual job lol

  11. Best meal in a minute - our post staycation day dinner was one of the best meals we have had in a long time! So nice to just enjoy an evening with my love, be intentional, and have amazing food!

  12. Father's Day Flowers - picked up some flowers for my husband for father's day to honor him and our little one in heaven.

  13. Morning Light - caught this little moment early one morning. A great reminder to slow down and look for the beauty.

  14. Family dinner - painted pottery and had dinner at one of our favorite Italian restaurants with my sister and brother in law. It was special family time.
